Changing DNS server

I’m in process of changing from the Network solutions DNS servers to the DNS servers at Zoneedit. The main reason I’m doing this is to gain access to the TXT DNS record so that I can put up my own SPF entry.

Hopefully this will not impact the site while I am transferring everything. I’ve done this 1,000 times but I still seem to screw things up once in a while :-)

I’m also hoping that the Zoneedit DNS servers will be a bit faster :-)

Once I’m done with this transfer I’m going to be transferring a lot more domains and adding the SPF records and then changing them all from Network Solutions to GoDaddy.com (I was in process of doing this well before the super bowl ad …)

Tracking spammers with ASNs

Over the weekend I was reading about tracking IPs and I came across an article about using the ASN to track spammers.

The Autonomous System Number, or ASN was originally developed to help route traffic on the Internet, but it is a unique identifier that is used to group IPs into routing groups. This helps to create a single unique number that can be used to identify all of the IPs for an ISP or other organization.

I’m working on a tools to leverage the ASN in the IP database I want to be able to see how many IPs from a certain ASN are currently listed in RBLs. This and which country they are coming from will give an idea of where in the world spam originates and which ISPs have the biggest spam problems.
